Punjab Govt forms high-powered panel to finalize job reservation for Agniveers

Chandigarh, May 12, 2026:The Punjab Government on Tuesday decided to formulate a reservation policy for Agniveers in state government jobs and constituted a high-powered committee to finalise the framework and modalities for their recruitment.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann gave in-principle approval for reservation benefits to Agniveers returning after completing their tenure under the Agnipath Scheme.
The Chief Minister said the policy would help rehabilitate trained and disciplined youth and integrate them into Punjab’s social and economic development.
A committee comprising senior officers Vikas Partap, Bhawna Garg, Sumer Singh Gurjar and S.S. Srivastava has been formed to prepare recommendations and finalise recruitment modalities for Agniveers in various government departments.
Mann said the services of Agniveers could be effectively utilised in departments such as Punjab Police, Forest Department, Fire Services, Jails, Home Guards and PESCO.
“The criteria regarding reservation and selection of Agniveers should be finalised at the earliest so that the services of these highly skilled and disciplined youth can be utilised in the best possible manner,” the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting Punjab’s contribution to national service, Mann said the state has always been known as the “sword arm of the nation” and its youth have a proud tradition of serving the country with courage and sacrifice.
He also reiterated that the Punjab Government provides financial assistance of ₹1 crore to the families of martyrs from the Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, police and other services who lose their lives in the line of duty.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the proposed reservation policy would help secure the future of Agniveers and support their families after completion of military service.
