PAU-KVK urges Inpluts Dealers to promote balanced use of fertilizers among farmers

Ferozepur, May 13, 2026: As part of the ongoing campaign on balanced use of fertilizers launched over the past two months, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur organised an awareness camp for fertilizer and seed dealers (input dealers). Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Balwinder Singh attended the programme as the chief guest.
Appreciating the initiative taken by KVK, Dr. Balwinder Singh said the awareness camp would provide scientific guidance to fertilizer and seed dealers, which would ultimately benefit both farmers and dealers.
Deputy Director of KVK Dr. Gurmel Singh welcomed the chief guest and said that Ferozepur district figures among the top 100 districts in the country with excessive fertilizer usage, making it necessary to improve the situation through awareness and scientific practices.
He informed that under the balanced fertilizer use campaign, the programme had been organised in collaboration with the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Ferozepur. He also informed dealers about the soil and water testing facilities available at KVK and said that farmers can get their soil and water tested at nominal charges to ensure proper fertilizer management and address fertilizer-related issues effectively.
During the camp, Dr. Jagjot Singh Gill, District Extension Scientist (Senior Most), Farm Advisory Service Centre, Ferozepur, shared detailed information regarding paddy nursery management and fertilizer application in crops. He also informed participants about bio-fertilizers made available by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) for paddy nursery treatment.
Assistant Professor of Vegetable Science Dr. Bhallan Singh Sekhon advised farmers to apply fertilizers in vegetables and fruit crops on the basis of soil testing. He also recommended PAU-approved paddy varieties including PR-131, PR-132, PR-126 and the newly introduced PR-133 for conservation of water and natural resources.
Providing further information, he said that seed of PR-133 is available at KVK at Rs 125 per kilogram (Rs 500 per 4 kg bag), while seeds of other varieties are available at Rs 1,500 per 24 kg bag.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Gurwant Singh and Dr. Rajnish urged fertilizer and seed dealers to actively spread the recommendations of Punjab Agricultural University among farmers.
At the end of the camp, experts answered queries raised by fertilizer and seed dealers in a satisfactory manner.
