Breaking: High Court stays Kharar MC elections

Mohali (Punjab),May 15, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the elections to the Municipal Council Kharar following a petition filed by residents of several villages over issues related to ward delimitation and voting rights.
According to the petitioners, a number of villages were merged into the Municipal Council after the dissolution of their gram panchayats, but residents were allegedly not granted voting rights in the civic body elections.
The matter was brought before the High Court by affected villagers, who challenged the warding process and claimed that despite becoming part of the Municipal Council limits, they were excluded from the electoral process.
Taking note of the issue, the High Court issued a stay on the Kharar Municipal Council elections until further proceedings in the matter.
