Tarn Taran (Punjab), May 18, 2026: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday carried out a major search operation at multiple locations linked to a prominent gold trader in Punjab’s border district of Tarn Taran, triggering panic and intense speculation in the local business community.
According to sources, special ED teams simultaneously raided three properties associated with businessman Bikramjit Singh alias Bunty, including his jewellery showroom, ancestral residence and another luxury property in the city.
The operation reportedly began early in the morning under tight secrecy, with officials conducting searches without prior intimation to the local police or district administration.
Sources said two ED teams first reached the trader’s jewellery showroom located in Guru Bazaar and his ancestral home in Mohalla Guru Ka Khooh Chowk around 10 AM. Officials spent over an hour examining stock records, financial documents and past business transactions.
During the searches, family members were reportedly allowed to continue routine household activities while officials carried out the investigation inside the residence.
After completing searches at the first two locations, the ED team later moved to another bungalow in Deep Avenue Colony near Gurdwara Lakir Sahib.
The probe is believed to be focused on suspected financial irregularities, bank transactions and possible links to illegal fund transfers. In a significant development, officials reportedly summoned senior managers and staff from four different banks directly to the search locations for scrutiny of account details and transaction records.
Sources claimed that bank accounts linked to family members were examined in the presence of bank officials and statements relating to suspicious transactions were reviewed on the spot.
While the ED has not yet issued an official statement regarding the raids, sources indicated that several important documents and financial records have been seized during the operation.
