Democratic Teachers Front demands change in school timings due to extreme heat
Ferozepur, May 19, 2026: Amid the rising heat wave conditions across Punjab, the district unit of District Teachers Front -DTF-Ferozepur, has urged the Punjab Government and the School Education Department to immediately revise school timings to protect students from extreme weather conditions.
District President , Secretary , along with Amit Kumar, Senior Vice-President Davinder Nath, State Committee Member Sarabjit Singh Bhawra, and Raj Kumar Mehrok stated that the intense heat is severely affecting normal life, with children and elderly people being the worst sufferers.
The leaders said that schoolchildren are facing serious health-related issues due to soaring temperatures and frequent power cuts in many areas, making classroom conditions even more difficult. They emphasized that the Punjab Government should immediately issue orders to change school timings in view of the worsening heat conditions.
District leaders including Gurvinder Singh Khosa, Sandeep Kumar Makhu, Ram Kumar, Swaran Singh Josan, Varinderpal Singh Khalsa, and Heera Singh Toot demanded that school timings should be revised from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. They pointed out that with temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius in Punjab, students are facing immense difficulties while travelling to and from schools, especially younger children who are more vulnerable to extreme heat.
The Democratic Teachers Front appealed to the Punjab Government, the Education Minister, and the Education Department to take immediate action in the interest of students’ health and safety.
