Chandigarh, May 19, 2026: The Haryana Government has launched a statewide campaign aimed at promoting fuel conservation, energy efficiency, and environmentally sustainable practices across government departments and districts.
The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel saving and energy conservation. Acting on the directive, Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner of Revenue and Disaster Management Departments, Dr. Sumita Misra, has issued detailed instructions to Deputy Commissioners and government offices across the state.
In the advisory, officials have been urged to adopt practical fuel-saving measures in daily functioning and encourage employees to actively participate in reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
As part of the campaign, government departments have been encouraged to increase the use of public transport systems such as metro services, buses, and trains instead of private vehicles for regular commuting. Officials have also been advised to promote carpooling and ride-sharing among colleagues to reduce traffic congestion and fuel usage.
The government has further recommended the use of digital coordination tools and WhatsApp groups to facilitate shared travel arrangements among employees.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable lifestyles, the advisory also encourages walking and cycling for short-distance travel wherever possible. Departments have additionally been directed to minimise unnecessary official tours, air travel, and foreign visits while combining multiple official tasks into single trips for better fuel efficiency.
A major focus of the initiative is cleaner mobility and digital governance. Officials have been asked to prioritise video conferencing for meetings to reduce travel requirements. The advisory also recommends giving preference to electric vehicles and fuel-efficient vehicles in future government purchases.
Employees residing on government campuses have also been encouraged to switch to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for domestic use as part of the clean energy initiative.
Dr. Sumita Misra stated that collective adoption of small but effective measures can significantly strengthen energy security, reduce pollution, and contribute towards environmental sustainability.
The initiative is being viewed as a major step by the Haryana government towards building a greener, cleaner, and more energy-efficient administrative system aligned with the broader national vision of sustainable development.
