Three young peddlers held with over 4 kg heroin in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 23, 2026: In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Ferozepur Police arrested three youths and recovered 4.254 kilograms of heroin, one motorcycle, and three mobile phones during a special operation conducted under the anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh.”
SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that the Punjab Government and Punjab Police have intensified efforts to break the drug supply chain and eliminate narcotics trafficking from the state.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Gurmeet Singh, Incharge CIA Staff Ferozepur at Zira, under the supervision of SP (Detective) Manjeet Singh, conducted a raid near the old sheller area of Dana Mandi, Ferozepur City, on May 22, 2026.
The arrested accused have been identified as: Ranjit Singh (22), resident of Ghanawala Bhana Market, Arshdeep Singh (19), resident of Ghanawala Bhana Market, and Akashdeep Singh (19), resident of Sukhna Singh Pind, Ferozepur
Police intercepted the accused while they were travelling on a motorcycle. During the search operation, officials recovered 4.254 kg heroin, a motorcycle without a registration number, and three mobile phones. FIR No. 182 dated May 22, 2026, under Sections 21/61/85 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at City Ferozepur Police Station.
According to police records, two of the accused were previously involved in criminal activities, including cases under the NDPS Act and Motor Vehicle Act violations.
SSP Sidhu stated that investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network and identify other persons associated with the racket. He added that several more suspects involved in the drug trade are currently under police radar and are expected to be arrested soon, with further recoveries likely.
Highlighting the ongoing anti-drug campaign, SSP Sidhu informed that since the launch of “Yudh Nashian Virudh” on February 24, 2025, Ferozepur Police have recovered nearly 417 kg heroin. In the first five months of 2026 alone, police recovered 160.114 kg heroin, registered 831 NDPS cases, and arrested 1,029 accused involved in narcotics smuggling. Besides heroin, police also seized 2 kg opium and 3.494 kg ICE drug (methamphetamine).
The SSP further revealed that since March 1, police teams have recovered 152 weapons and seized 49 drones allegedly used by Pakistani smugglers to push heroin and arms into India through cross-border routes. He said police teams are working round-the-clock to foil such attempts.
At the same time, the involvement of youths aged between 19 and 22 years in drug trafficking has emerged as a matter of grave concern. The rising trend underlines the urgent need for stronger awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programmes, employment opportunities, and coordinated social initiatives to protect the younger generation from falling prey to the drug menace.
