Block-Level ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ workshop held on improving Girl-Sex-Ratio
Ferozepur, May 23, 2026:
A block-level workshop under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign was organized at Community Health Centre (CHC) Firozshah under the directions of Civil Surgeon Ferozepur Dr. Meenakshi Dhingra and the guidance of Senior Medical Officer Dr. Abhijeet Singh.
The sex ratio of Ferozepur during the last three years has been 905 in 2023, 912 in 2024 and 923 in 2025, against 1000 males in the population.
Dr. Manmeet, School Health Medical Officer, District Mass Media Officer Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, and Deputy Mass Media Officer Mr. Ankush Bhandari attended the workshop as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Abhijeet Singh said that daughters are an important part of society and the future remains incomplete without them. He emphasized that the main objective of the campaign is to ensure equality between sons and daughters and to educate girls, as an educated daughter benefits two families. He added that today girls are excelling and holding prestigious positions in every field.
DMMO Sanjeev Kumar expressed concern over the declining girl child sex ratio and instructed ASHA workers to ensure mandatory registration of pregnant women within the first three months of pregnancy so that improvement in the sex ratio can be achieved.
Deputy MMO ass Media Ankush Bhandari said that daughters are often more caring and emotionally connected to their families. He appealed to people to encourage boys in their families to maintain respectful behaviour towards girls. He further stated that the Health Department is committed to strict implementation of the PCPNDT Act under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
On the occasion, Hardeep Singh, BEE Firozshah, also created awareness among the public about saving daughters from female foeticide and ensuring their education.
Students of Genesis Nursing Institute presented posters, speeches, and poems related to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. ASHA Facilitator Mrs. Bindu Sharma and Sunny, an employee of CHC Firozshah, presented emotional songs dedicated to daughters. Participants were honoured at the end of the programme.
