Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: Residents across Punjab may finally get relief from the scorching summer heat as the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms in several parts of the state over the next two days.
According to the latest weather forecast, conditions are expected to change significantly from Thursday onward, with cloudy skies likely to prevail across most districts from early morning. Strong winds, dust storms and isolated hailstorms are also expected in many areas.
Officials said the weather system could bring down temperatures by nearly 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, offering much-needed respite from the intense heatwave conditions that recently pushed temperatures close to 45 degrees Celsius in parts of the state.
The weather department has issued a special alert for districts including Mohali, Patiala, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur, where rainfall and cloudy weather are likely to remain active.
While the expected change in weather is set to provide relief from the blistering heat, authorities have also advised residents to remain cautious due to the possibility of strong winds and hail activity in vulnerable areas.
