Chandigarh, May 29, 2026: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday congratulated party workers for what he called a “brave fight” in the municipal elections, while alleging large-scale misuse of official machinery and intimidation by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Warring said Congress workers displayed courage despite what he described as “abuse of power” by the ruling party during the polls held across Punjab. He alleged that the elections reflected a pattern of pressure tactics and administrative misuse against opposition candidates.
Referring to the conduct of the ruling party, he said it was a display of “saam, daam, dand, bhed” politics, adding that such practices were clearly visible during the civic elections.
The Punjab Congress chief further claimed that the municipal poll results do not reflect the true ground reality in the state and asserted that the “real contest” will take place in 2027 Assembly elections. He predicted a major setback for AAP, stating that the party would “bite the dust” in the upcoming state polls.
Warring also alleged that despite alleged misuse of police and administrative machinery, AAP failed to secure a decisive mandate in the civic elections. He reiterated his claim that the ruling party would not be able to cross even double-digit seats in 2027.
“Let them celebrate what he called a ‘short-lived victory’, but it will have an expiry date of February 2027,” he said, while reaffirming confidence in Congress’s future performance in the state.
