The counting of votes began at 8 a.m. under tight security arrangements and the supervision of the State Election Commission. Results from across the state reflected a strong showing by the ruling party in urban areas.
Reacting to the outcome, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the results reflected the people's continued faith in the AAP government's performance. He described the verdict as a major endorsement of the party's governance model and development agenda.
Mann said that after victories in the Punjab Assembly elections, Lok Sabha elections, Panchayat elections and now municipal elections, AAP has strengthened its position across all levels of democratic institutions in the state. He claimed that AAP-backed candidates had secured victories in more than 90 per cent of municipal councils and urban local bodies.
Thanking voters for their participation, the Chief Minister said the people of Punjab had rejected divisive politics and chosen development-oriented governance. He also asserted that even the combined strength of opposition parties could not match the support received by AAP in the civic polls.
Political observers view the civic poll results as a significant boost for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, while opposition parties are expected to review their performance and electoral strategy in the coming months.
