Chandigarh, June 3, 2026: The controversy surrounding the entry tax imposed in Himachal Pradesh on vehicles using the Kiratpur Sahib-Manali highway has taken a fresh turn, with Nihang Singh organizations announcing the imposition of a “Khalsa Entry Tax” in Punjab as a mark of protest.
The dispute over the Himachal entry tax has triggered a series of sit-ins, demonstrations and road blockades in recent weeks, with various groups demanding its withdrawal.
Amid the ongoing agitation, Nihang organizations have now escalated their protest by declaring that a separate “Khalsa Entry Tax” will be collected within Punjab territory.
According to reports, the tax is set to be enforced from Thursday in the Modra area near the Punjab-Himachal border. The announcement comes even as the Punjab government has not proposed any official entry tax on vehicles entering the state.
Leaders associated with the Nihang organizations said the move is intended to register strong opposition to the levy imposed by Himachal Pradesh and to highlight what they describe as the unfair burden being placed on commuters and transporters travelling through the route.
