Amritsar (Punjab), June 6, 2026: Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, on Friday asserted that no law concerning Sri Guru Granth Sahib can be implemented without the approval of the Sikh Panth.
Addressing the Sikh community from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on the occasion of the 42nd Ghallughara Diwas, Gargaj alleged that efforts were being made to bring Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the Guru Panth under legal control. He maintained that any legislation relating to Sri Guru Granth Sahib would require the consent and approval of the Guru Panth.
In his message, the acting Jathedar also stressed the importance of Punjab’s connection with its land and agriculture. He urged Punjabi youth to safeguard their ancestral lands and remain rooted in the realities and traditions of their homeland.
Speaking on the rights of Sikhs in the country, Gargaj said Sikhs are equal citizens of India and should enjoy the same rights as every other community.
He expressed concern over instances of alleged discrimination and attacks on Sikhs outside Punjab, stating that while people from across the country live peacefully in Punjab, Sikhs have at times faced difficulties and discrimination in other states.
The remarks were delivered during commemorative events held in Amritsar to mark the 42nd anniversary of the June 1984 military operation at the Golden Temple complex.
