Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), June 22, 2026: A devastating fire at a coaching centre in Uttar Pradesh's capital on Monday left at least 11 people dead and several others injured, triggering a large-scale rescue operation and prompting top state officials to rush to the scene.
The blaze erupted in a multi-storey building in the Aliganj area during the afternoon, sending thick plumes of smoke through the structure and trapping students and staff inside. Panic-stricken occupants reportedly attempted to escape through windows and balconies, while some jumped from upper floors to save themselves from the flames.
Firefighters, police personnel and disaster response teams launched an intensive rescue mission, deploying multiple fire tenders and specialised equipment to bring the fire under control and search for survivors. Authorities said several people sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and senior administrative officials reached the site to monitor rescue efforts. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took cognisance of the tragedy and headed to Lucknow after receiving reports of the incident.
Rescue workers continued to search the building amid concerns that additional people could still be trapped inside. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed, though authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about fire safety standards in educational institutions and commercial buildings, particularly in densely populated urban areas. Rescue and relief operations were continuing at the time of filing this report.
