CPDL issues monsoon safety advisory, urges consumers to follow electrical safety measures
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, July 1, 2026: With the onset of the monsoon season and as part of the observance of National Electric Safety Week, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has issued a public safety advisory urging consumers to take extra precautions while using electrical equipment to prevent accidents.
CPDL advised residents to maintain a safe distance from electric poles, transformers, and exposed or damaged electrical wires, particularly during and after rainfall, when the risk of electrical hazards increases.
The utility also cautioned consumers against touching electrical appliances with wet hands. In case of water leakage inside homes, residents have been advised to immediately switch off the main power supply to minimise the risk of electric shock.
The advisory further warned against drying clothes on electricity wires, describing the practice as extremely dangerous. Consumers have also been urged not to overload electrical sockets or extension boards, as doing so can lead to electrical fires and other safety hazards.
CPDL appealed to the public to promptly report any snapped or damaged electricity wires lying on roads or in public places so that immediate action can be taken. It also advised parents to ensure that children stay away from waterlogged areas, electrical installations, and electrical appliances during the monsoon season.
The power utility urged consumers to strictly follow the safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during the rainy season.
Consumers can report electricity-related safety concerns or emergencies by contacting the CPDL helpline at 9240216666.
