New Delhi, July 1, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior IPS officer Deepak Gehlawat in connection with an alleged ₹3-crore bribery case linked to an investigation into a fake medicines racket.
According to CBI officials, Gehlawat, who was serving as Regional Director of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) at the time of the alleged offence, is accused of using his position and influence to interfere with a CBI investigation in return for a substantial bribe.
The agency alleged that Gehlawat assured a businessman from Puducherry that he could secure a favourable outcome in the CBI probe by influencing officials handling the investigation.
The case is connected to an alleged fake medicines manufacturing racket and came to light during a CBI trap operation conducted in June. During the operation, Delhi Police Crime Branch Inspector Pradeep Singh and an alleged middleman, Raj Kumar, were caught and arrested.
The CBI had earlier registered an FIR against Inspector Pradeep Singh, Raj Kumar and the Puducherry-based businessman N. Raja in connection with the case.
With Gehlawat's arrest, the agency has intensified its investigation into the alleged bribery network and is probing the role of other individuals who may have been involved in the conspiracy.
The CBI said further investigation into the case is underway.
