Chandigarh, July 6, 2026: The political row over the removal of Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh's film Satluj from OTT platforms intensified on Monday, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launching a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and alleging a possible political understanding between the BJP and the Congress.
In a statement, AAP questioned why the film had been removed from OTT platforms, alleging that the BJP-led Central government was attempting to prevent the truth about Punjab's past from reaching the public.
The party claimed that Satluj depicts the alleged atrocities and repression that took place in Punjab during the tenure of the then Congress government. AAP argued that the film highlights a chapter of the state's history that should remain accessible to the public, particularly younger generations.
Raising political questions over the development, AAP asked whether the BJP and the Congress had reached an "internal understanding" to shield the Congress from criticism by preventing wider access to the film.
The party further alleged that the decision to remove the film was an attempt to suppress historical narratives. "When a country begins to fear its own history, suppressing the truth becomes its most dangerous weapon," AAP said in its statement.
AAP also maintained that in the digital age, social media and OTT platforms have become important mediums for educating young people about historical events. It said that future generations should be aware of what Punjab witnessed in the past and alleged that removing such content amounts to silencing historical discourse.
While the party has not issued any official statement on the latest development, Randhawa’s message has added a new dimension to the ongoing political discourse surrounding the Punjab Congress.
