Army conducts ‘Flood Disaster Mock Drill’ to strengthen emergency preparedness
Ferozepur, July 8, 2026: The Indian Army, in collaboration with the district administration, conducted a comprehensive ‘Flood Disaster Mock Drill’ at Government Smart Senior Secondary School, Dulchi Kalan, to enhance preparedness for flood-related emergencies. The exercise witnessed active participation from the Indian Army, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and all key stakeholder departments of the district.

The mock drill was attended by Brigadier Vikram Rastogi, Colonel Yogesh Tamang, Major Robin Singh, and Mamdot Naib Tehsildar Rajesh Dhingra, along with officials from various government departments.
During the exercise, participants were educated on effective response strategies during flood-like emergency situations, including rescue operations, evacuation procedures, first aid, and disaster management techniques. The Indian Army also demonstrated its rescue capabilities and explained the role it plays during natural calamities.

Addressing the gathering, Major Robin Singh said the joint exercise provided valuable training to various departments on minimizing loss of life and property during natural disasters and emergency situations. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all departments and stressed the importance of understanding their respective responsibilities during crises.
He highlighted that the Indian Army has always played a crucial role in rescue and relief operations and responds promptly whenever called upon, ensuring timely assistance to protect lives and property. School students also actively participated in the mock drill and gained practical knowledge about disaster preparedness.
Major Robin Singh further noted that Punjab, being a land of rivers and canals, remains vulnerable to floods during the monsoon season from June to September. He emphasized that such joint exercises improve coordination among departments, help identify shortcomings, and ensure better preparedness for real-life emergencies.
He added that the primary objective of the mock drill was to create awareness among citizens about disaster preparedness and equip them with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively during natural calamities.
Officials and personnel from the Punjab Police, Health Department, Home Guards, Education Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Fire Safety Department, Red Cross, and students of the government school participated in the exercise. Senior officers and employees from various departments were also present on the occasion.
