Punjab's ‘Meri Rasoi’ crosses 25 lakh ration kits milestone; Ludhiana tops distribution chart

Chandigarh, July 10, 2026: The Punjab Government's flagship 'Meri Rasoi' initiative has crossed a major milestone, with more than 25 lakh ration kits distributed to economically vulnerable families across the state, strengthening food and nutritional security.
The scheme has so far benefited 25.03 lakh families, while the government aims to distribute ration kits to 40.48 lakh eligible households every quarter.
Launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, the programme is being implemented on a mission mode to ensure timely delivery of essential food items to beneficiaries.
Each ration kit includes 2 kg of lentils, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder, and 1 litre of mustard oil for monthly consumption. The kits are provided in addition to wheat supplied under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, with the aim of improving the nutritional intake of beneficiary families.
The ration kits are assembled by Markfed, while the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs oversees their distribution across Punjab.
Among all districts, Ludhiana has recorded the highest distribution with 2,71,433 ration kits, followed by Patiala with 1,83,694, Bathinda with 1,52,020, Amritsar with 1,44,082, Sangrur with 1,42,444, and Fazilka with 1,39,759 kits.
Other districts reporting significant distribution include Jalandhar (1,34,960), Sri Muktsar Sahib (1,30,362), Tarn Taran (1,28,228), Hoshiarpur (1,10,962), Ferozepur (1,04,069), Gurdaspur (1,02,695), Mansa (88,914), Moga (87,984), Fatehgarh Sahib (80,305), SAS Nagar (75,637), Faridkot (71,896), Kapurthala (71,785), Pathankot (70,037), Barnala (64,950), Rupnagar (56,492), Malerkotla (47,806) and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (42,737).
The state government said the initiative is aimed at supplementing staple grains with proteins, edible oil and essential kitchen ingredients to improve the nutritional well-being of low-income families.
Officials said the distribution process is being closely monitored to ensure transparency, eliminate duplication and guarantee last-mile delivery through coordinated efforts of district administrations and the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
The government maintained that the 'Meri Rasoi' programme complements the existing NFSA foodgrain distribution system and reflects its commitment to ensuring that no eligible family is deprived of food and nutritional security.
