Chandigarh, July 13, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday heard the long-pending case concerning the 18 per cent pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for Punjab government employees and pensioners, with the matter now scheduled for further hearing on July 14, when a significant order is expected.
The case was heard before the Bench headed by the Chief Justice, following which the court adjourned the matter to Tuesday.
The litigation stems from the High Court's April 8, 2026 order, directing the release of the pending 18 per cent DA to employees. However, the Punjab Government and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) challenged the ruling by filing two Letters Patent Appeals (LPA Nos. 1249 and 1437 of 2026, State of Punjab vs Nirmal Singh Dhanoa).
During Monday's hearing, PSPCL filed a fresh affidavit before the court. Taking note of the submission, the Bench directed counsel for the petitioners representing the employees to file a response.
Given the significance of the matter, the High Court fixed July 14 for the next hearing, raising expectations among employees and pensioners that a key decision on the pending DA issue could be delivered.
