Two wanted criminals held after brief exchange of fire In Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 9: Police arrested two wanted criminals following a brief exchange of fire in the district on Sunday, officials said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said the accused have been identified as Harjeet Singh, a resident of Talwandi Soba in Patti Sadar area, and Dilbagh Singh of Jogewala village. Both were allegedly involved in various criminal activities and were wanted in connection with a case.
According to the police, sleuths of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and Mallanwala police received inputs about the movement of the two accused in the area. Following the information, a checkpoint was set up near Fatehgarh Sabra village.
When the accused approached the checkpoint on a motorcycle, the police team signalled them to stop. However, instead of complying, they allegedly tried to flee and opened fire at the police team. One of the bullets hit a police vehicle.
The police retaliated, during which both accused sustained injuries. They were subsequently taken to the civil hospital for treatment.
The police recovered two pistols allegedly used by the accused and also impounded their motorcycle. Further investigation into the case is underway.
