Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann joins Teej celebrations in Nawanshahr and Phillaur

Nawanshahr/Phillaur (Punjab), August 14, 2026: A vibrant celebration of Punjabi culture, traditions and women’s participation was witnessed across Nawanshahr and Phillaur as women gathered in large numbers for Teej celebrations and warmly welcomed Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann.
Speaking at the events, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann said Teej was not merely a festival but a celebration of the happiness, confidence and bond shared by Punjab’s women. She said such programmes play an important role in preserving Punjabi heritage and passing it on to the next generation.
She said women in Punjab were increasingly aware of their rights and dignity, adding that the participation and enthusiasm of women reflected their support for the policies and functioning of the Bhagwant Mann-led government.
In Nawanshahr, the programme was organised under the leadership of Halqa In-charge Robby Kang. Praising Kang’s efforts, Dr Mann said remaining connected with people and raising their concerns was an important measure of effective leadership.
In Phillaur, she highlighted the participation of women in political leadership and said giving women greater responsibilities was not merely about representation but also reflected growing confidence in their leadership capabilities.
During the celebrations, Dr Mann interacted with women and discussed government initiatives aimed at their welfare, including the Maavan-Dheeyan Scheme. The events featured Punjabi folk traditions, traditional attire and a colourful Teej atmosphere.
Dr Mann said Punjab’s development would be complete only when every woman in the state was strong, respected and self-reliant. She said the Mann government was committed to women’s empowerment and creating greater opportunities for women to take up leadership roles.
