Ferozepur, August 17, 2026: In collaboration with Atma Scheme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur organized an exposure tour on “Nursery Management in Horticultural Crops” at Dr. J.C. Bakshi Regional Research Centre, Abohar, to promote horticultural-based activities as a supplementary source of income for farmers.
The tour was organized under the leadership of Dr. Gurmail Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Ferozepur. At the outset, Dr. Gurmail Singh interacted with the participating young farmers and encouraged them to closely observe the horticultural activities being carried out at the Regional Research Centre and consider nursery raising as an additional farming venture.
Dr. B.S. Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Electrical Science) apprised the participants about the scope and important aspects of nursery raising of date palm, jamun and citrus fruits as a supplementary occupation. Dr. Anil Kumar Kamra, Scientist (Horticulture), Regional Research Centre, Abohar, shared information on recommended varieties of date palm and jamun, mother blocks, nursery rearing techniques and fruiting plants. He informed the farmers that the newly recommended jamun varieties require relatively less space and usually start fruiting about five years after planting.

The participating farmers showed interest in expanding their nursery activities beyond vegetable seedlings by establishing mother blocks of fruit crops and growing quality planting material as a complementary venture. A total of 25 farmers from different villages of Ferozepur and Faridkot districts participated in this exposure tour.
