Himachal Pradesh approves 6 Govt schools as Model Day-Boarding Schools

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), August 19, 2026: The Himachal Pradesh government has approved the development of six existing government schools in six Assembly constituencies as Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools.
The government clarified that no new day-boarding schools will be constructed in these constituencies. Instead, the selected existing schools will be upgraded to meet prescribed standards and equipped with modern facilities.
The Directorate of School Education has been directed to conduct a detailed assessment of the infrastructure at the selected schools and submit a revised proposal for administrative approval and expenditure sanction.
The schools selected for the upgrade are:
- Government Senior Secondary School, Karsog, Mandi district — CBSE.
- Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Rampur Bushahr, Shimla district — CBSE.
- Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Rohru, Shimla district — Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.
- Government Senior Secondary School, Chaupal, Shimla district — CBSE.
- Government Senior Secondary School, Nauhradhar, Renukaji, Sirmaur district — CBSE.
- Government Senior Secondary School, Behdala, Una district.
The government has directed that the schools be developed to cater to students from pre-primary through Class 12, with infrastructure and facilities designed to meet the requirements of a modern day-boarding education system.
