Punjab Bandh today August 21: Buses, Private schools to remain closed, Government Schools to remain open, essential services exempted

Chandigarh, August 21, 2026: Punjab Bandh will be observed in the state today in support of demand for release of Bandi Sikhs which are behind bars in different jails of the country.
Buses will remain off roads, Priavate Schools and Colleges will remain closed but Education Minister Harjot Bains has announced that Government Schools will remain open while essential services including hospitals, medical stored etc. have been exempted from Bandh.
Though initial call for Bandh was given by Qoumi Infsaf Morcha, various political, social and religious groups have extended support for call of the Bandh. Farmer unions have also extend support to the Bandh call. Train services in the state are also likely to be effected as it is high possibility that farmers will sit on tracks to stop movement of trains.
