Breaking: BJP to contest all 117 Punjab Assembly seats alone, no alliance with SAD: BL Santosh

Patiala (Punjab), August 24, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary B.L. Santosh has ruled out any possibility of the party reviving its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, saying the BJP will contest the upcoming Assembly elections independently.
Addressing a public gathering in Patiala on Monday, Santosh said the BJP would contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own and work towards forming the party’s government in the state.
He also called upon BJP workers to remain fully prepared for the upcoming elections, asserting that the party was strengthening its organisational structure across Punjab and expanding its presence in every Assembly constituency.
Santosh’s remarks effectively rule out, for now, speculation about a possible renewal of the BJP-SAD alliance, which has been a subject of political discussion in Punjab.
The announcement is expected to have a bearing on the state’s emerging political equations ahead of the Assembly elections, with the BJP signalling its intent to build an independent electoral base across all 117 constituencies.
