Secretary Local Government directs deep cleaning of 630-km internal road network; tender for 164-km main roads to be expedited

Bathinda, September 12: Secretary of the Local Government Department, Punjab, Ghanshyam Thori, on Friday conducted a ground-level review of the state-of-the-art mechanical sweeping and deep-cleaning project being implemented by the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda, and issued a series of directions to further improve cleanliness and sanitation across the city.
Accompanied by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Lovejeet Kaur Kalsi and other departmental officials, Thori inspected the ongoing mechanical sweeping operations and reviewed their functioning on the ground.
At present, mechanical sweeping is being undertaken over approximately 100 kilometres per week. Appreciating the initiative, the Secretary said the use of modern cleaning technology would help improve the overall sanitation, cleanliness and aesthetic appearance of Bathinda.
Taking the review a step further, Thori directed officials to immediately commence mechanical sweeping and deep-cleaning operations on the city's internal roads, with a target of covering 630 kilometres every week.
He also directed the officials to expedite and finalise the pending tender process for cleaning 164 kilometres of the city's main roads, stressing the need for timely execution of the project to ensure comprehensive road cleaning.
Focus on public participation
Emphasising that a clean city cannot be achieved through municipal efforts alone, Thori called for a city-wide public awareness campaign on sanitation and cleanliness.
He directed officials to actively involve residents and sensitise the public about keeping roads, public spaces and surrounding areas clean.
Appealing to residents, Thori urged them to extend their cooperation to the Municipal Corporation and contribute towards making Bathinda a cleaner, healthier and better-maintained city.
The directions are aimed at giving a major push to Bathinda's cleanliness infrastructure by combining mechanised sweeping, deep cleaning and greater public participation

Bathinda, 12 September Ghanshyam Thori, Secretary of the Local Government Department, Government of Punjab, paid a special visit to Bathinda city. He conducted a ground-level review of the state-of-the-art "mechanical sweeping (deep cleaning)" project initiated by the Municipal Corporation, Bathinda.
He was accompanied by the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Lovejeet Kaur Kalsi, and other departmental officials. During the visit, Mr. Thori inspected the operational process of the mechanical sweeping currently being carried out at a rate of 100 kilometres per week and commended the initiative.
He expressed confidence that the launch of this modern project would significantly enhance the beautification and sanitation standards of Bathinda city. The Secretary instructed officials to immediately commence mechanical sweeping and deep cleaning operations on the city's internal roads, covering a distance of 630 kilometers per week.
Additionally, orders were issued to promptly finalize the pending tender processes for cleaning 164 kilometres of the city's main roads. To involve the general public in maintaining the city's cleanliness, Mr. Thori directed that an awareness campaign regarding sanitation be launched.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the Municipal Corporation in keeping the city's roads and surroundings clean.
