New Delhi, September 13, 2026: BJP National Spokesman RP Singh has strongly objected to Akhilesh Yadav's use of the sacred Khanda Sahib for political purposes.
Terming it as entirely unacceptable, he said that religious symbols are not tools for political mockery.
He said that Khanda Sahib is a sacred symbol of Sikhism, Sikh identity, and its glorious heritage. Insulting it or presenting it in a distorted form deeply wounds the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. It cannot be dismissed as mere ordinary political expression.
BJP leader said that now the question is no longer just about Akhilesh Yadav. He had openly supported AAP in the Delhi assembly elections, while in Uttar Pradesh, his Samajwadi Party is an ally of Congress. Congress and AAP must clarify where they stand on this issue.
He also asked that them will they remain silent simply because the one committing the insult is their political ally?
He said that there cannot be double standards for respecting religious sentiments—one yardstick for political convenience and another for alliance partners. He said that every religion and every sacred symbol must be accorded equal respect.
He said that Khanda Sahib is a sacred symbol of Sikhism, not a tool for political propaganda. Political alliances cannot supersede religious faith and respect.
