SBSSU VC showcases best practices, drug de-addiction efforts at Vice-Chancellors’ Conference
Governor Kataria calls for ethical and AI-enabled higher education to build Viksit Bharat by 2047
Ferozepur, September 12: Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University (SBSSU), Ferozepur, showcased its best practices and sustained efforts towards creating a drug-free campus during the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference on “Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education” held at Punjab Lok Bhavan.
Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, called upon universities to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform higher education, research and innovation while ensuring that its use remains ethical, inclusive, human-centric and socially responsible.
Addressing the conference, the Governor emphasized the need to equip students with future-ready skills and encourage multidisciplinary applications of AI for nation-building and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, made a presentation on “Best Practices and Drug De-addiction Efforts of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University.”
During his presentation, Prof. Sharma highlighted the university’s initiatives and best practices aimed at promoting a healthy, responsible and drug-free environment among students. He also elaborated on the university’s sustained efforts in drug de-addiction awareness, counselling, student engagement and community outreach.
The Vice-Chancellor underlined the university’s commitment to the holistic development and well-being of students, with particular emphasis on preventing drug abuse and encouraging young people to lead healthy and responsible lives.
The conference featured expert sessions on emerging AI technologies, technical education, university-industry collaboration and best practices in higher education. Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, President, South Asian University, New Delhi; Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, along with his team; Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala; Dr. Vinay Goyal, Vice-Chancellor, CGC University, and other experts shared their views and experiences.
The conference provided a platform for Vice-Chancellors and education experts to deliberate on emerging challenges and opportunities in higher education and explore innovative approaches to prepare the youth to contribute effectively towards building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
