ASI Harjit Singh Murder: DGP says .30-bore pistol used in attack

Amritsar (Punjab), September 18, 2026: Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday visited the crime scene in Amritsar where Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjit Singh was shot dead and reviewed the progress of the investigation with senior police officials.
Yadav said the killing of ASI Harjit Singh was being treated as a serious matter and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the crime.
According to the DGP, the preliminary investigation has indicated that a .30-bore pistol was used in the attack. He said two assailants allegedly opened fire at ASI Harjit Singh from behind, resulting in his death.
Yadav said the investigation was being expedited and the accused would be brought to justice. Police teams are examining all aspects of the case to identify and arrest those responsible.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 crore for the family of the deceased ASI. Police officials said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
