Faridkot (Punjab), September 21, 2026: The legacy of Sikh warrior Sardar Charat Singh Shukarchakia and his famed marksmanship is inspiring young shooters participating in the 3rd Sardar Charat Singh Shooting Cup being held at the Shooting Range of Nehru Stadium in Faridkot.
The four-day championship, organised by the Misl Satluj Party as part of the Baba Farid Aagman Purab celebrations, is being held from September 18 to 21.
On the second day of the event, Misl Satluj Party president Ajaypal Singh Brar interacted with the participating shooters and encouraged them to pursue the sport with discipline and dedication.
Brar said the growing participation in shooting has contributed to the increasing popularity of the championship. This year, shooters from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are taking part, giving the event a wider reach and providing young athletes a platform to demonstrate their skills.
He said Charat Singh Shukarchakia holds an important place in Sikh history for his courage, strategic vision and martial abilities. According to Brar, his expertise in marksmanship was one of the notable aspects of his military career.
Referring to historical accounts, Brar said historian Sardar Rattan Singh Bhangu had also mentioned Charat Singh’s shooting skills in Sri Gur Panth Prakash.
Brar said organising a shooting championship in his memory provides an opportunity to introduce younger generations to an important part of Sikh history while promoting sport.
He said the lessons associated with Charat Singh’s life extend beyond marksmanship, with determination, concentration and discipline being essential to achieving any goal.
Brar added that the purpose of the championship was not limited to competition but also included encouraging young people to engage with Sikh heritage and supporting sporting talent. He said shooting can help participants develop focus, patience, mental balance, discipline and confidence.
Misl Satluj Party general secretary Davinder Singh Sekhon said Punjab had a long tradition of producing both warriors and sportspersons. He said sporting activities could provide young people with a constructive outlet for their energy.
Sekhon congratulated the participating shooters and said consistent practice, discipline and learning from each competition were important for sporting development. He expressed hope that the championship would expand in future and attract emerging shooters from different parts of the country.
