Police Inspector held with heroin, illegal arms in Counter-Intelligence sting
Ferozepur, September 26, 2026:
A police inspector posted in the Counter Intelligence wing has been arrested here on charges of drug and arms smuggling, police said Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, Ghall Khurd police station officials learned that Inspector Baldev Singh, 56, was travelling in his Hyundai i20 (registration PB05AC-6517) carrying a large consignment of narcotics and illegal weapons. Police set up a checkpoint late Friday night at Firozshah toll plaza on the Firozpur-Moga road.
When the car approached the barricade, personnel signalled him to stop. He complied but reportedly tried to assert his authority, identifying himself as a police officer. When the team insisted on searching the vehicle, he allegedly grew agitated and threatened departmental action against them but officers held their ground and proceeded with the search, according to the Station House Officer.
The search recovered 3 kg 350 grams of heroin, six pistols — including high-value Glock handguns, four magazines and 17 cartridges. His car and six mobile phones were also seized.
olice have registered a case against the alleged police Inspector at Ghall Khurd police station under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act. He is currently in custody and being questioned.
SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the investigation is ongoing, and further probe will determine whether the seized drugs were part of a recent consignment or had been held for some time, as well as the source of the weapons. He added that preliminary suspicion points to a possible Pakistan link regarding the firearms, though this would be confirmed only after investigation. The seized mobile phones have been sent for forensic examination to trace call records and other details.
Police are also investigating how long the inspector had allegedly been involved in the trade, and the intended destination of the seized contraband.
