Nagoya, September 27, 2026: Indian shot putter Manpreet Kaur secured the bronze medal in the women’s shot put at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, recording a best throw of 17.17 metres.
China’s Song Jiayuan won the gold medal with a throw of 19.40 metres, while compatriot Zhang Linru took silver with 18.14 metres.
Born on July 6, 1990, Manpreet is one of India’s experienced women’s shot putters. Her personal best of 18.06 metres was recorded in Chennai on June 11, 2022. World Athletics lists her as an Asian Championships bronze medallist and an Asian Games bronze medallist.
Manpreet previously won the women’s shot put gold at the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati with a throw of 17.94 metres. The 2019 South Asian Games gold in the event was won by Abha Khatuwa.
She also claimed bronze at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships with a 17.00-metre effort. At the 2023 Asian Games, she finished fifth with a throw of 16.25 metres.
Her 2026 season had already shown signs of a strong return to form. She won the National Inter-State Championships with 17.75 metres and later finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 17.49 metres.
Manpreet’s career has also included a four-year anti-doping suspension that began in July 2017 following four positive tests that year. The relevant competitive results were subsequently disqualified. She later returned to competition and recorded her personal-best throw of 18.06 metres in 2022.
Her 17.17-metre effort in Nagoya marks another significant milestone in her long international career, taking her back onto the Asian Games podium.
