In a proactive move to address the pressing irrigation needs of the Bathinda Rural constituency, Gopal Singh Kotfatta, the Aam Aadmi Party's in-charge for the area, met with Krishan Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary of Punjab's Water Resources Department. The meeting, held at the department's office in Chandigarh, focused on the urgent need to reconstruct and restore damaged watercourses and moghas across various villages in the constituency.
During the meeting, Kotfatta presented a comprehensive proposal detailing the rough cost estimates for the necessary reconstruction projects. He emphasized the importance of these watercourses and moghas in ensuring the efficient supply and distribution of canal water to local farmers, who rely heavily on this resource for their agricultural activities.
Krishan Kumar, IAS, responded positively to Kotfatta's appeal, assuring him that directives would soon be issued to subordinate officers. These directives aim to prioritize the proposed works, contingent upon the completion of required procedures and approvals. This assurance brings hope for timely action to address the irrigation infrastructure challenges faced by Bathinda Rural.
The reconstruction of these watercourses is seen as a crucial step toward improving the agricultural landscape of the region. Local leaders, including Paramjit Singh Kotfatta, Chairman of the Primary Agriculture Land Development Bank, and Hardeep Singh, Chairman of the District Planning Committee, have expressed their support for Kotfatta's efforts. Hartej Singh Bhullar, Social Media Incharge for Halka Bathinda (rural), and Sukhjinder Singh Romana, Sarpanch of Jodhpur, also lauded the initiative and pledged their full backing.
Kotfatta remains optimistic that these proposed projects will not only enhance irrigation facilities but also address long-standing issues faced by farmers in Bathinda Rural. The collective support from local leaders and officials underscores a strong commitment to improving agricultural infrastructure and meeting the needs of the farming community.
