MLAs Kulwant Singh, Kuljit Singh Randhawa inaugurate District-Level ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026’ Games

SAS Nagar (Punjab), October 2, 2026: District-level competitions under the fourth season of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026’ began in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district on Thursday, with MLA Mohali Kulwant Singh and MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa jointly inaugurating the games at the Sports Complex, Sector 78, Mohali.
The MLAs said the state government’s flagship sports initiative aims to connect youth with sports and provide athletes with opportunities to develop and showcase their talent.
Kulwant Singh said players from the Under-14 category to those above 70 years can participate in the games. He added that cash prizes are being provided to winners and said the government had also taken initiatives to provide financial assistance to sportspersons preparing for international competitions.
Randhawa said the government was focusing on developing sports infrastructure across the state. He said more than 3,100 rural sports grounds were being developed to encourage young people to take up sports and channel their energy towards constructive activities.
The district-level competitions will be held from October 2 to October 6 at various designated sports venues across SAS Nagar district. Competitions will be held in cricket, shooting, athletics, kho-kho, circle-style and national-style kabaddi, wrestling, badminton, basketball, roller skating, fencing, judo, table tennis, volleyball, boxing, kickboxing, swimming, gatka, chess, hockey, handball, football, lawn tennis and weightlifting.
Players from gymnastics and gatka teams also showcased their skills during the inaugural ceremony.
Lindhya A.N., IAS (Under Training), District Sports Officer Umeshwari Sharma, Kuldeep Singh Samana, Senior Deputy Mayor Rajinder Prasad Sharma and Deputy Mayor Harpal Singh Channa were among those present, along with players, sports enthusiasts, local residents and other officials and leaders.
