Breaking: SIT formed to probe rape case against Amarjit Singh Chawla

Amritsar (Punjab), October 8, 2026: The Punjab government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged rape case registered against former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Amarjit Singh Chawla.
The SIT will be headed by Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurbans Bains. SSP Vigilance Simranjit Lang and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karan Sandhu are the other members of the investigation team.
The team will conduct the investigation into the allegations and submit its findings as per the applicable legal procedure.
Chawla, a former SGPC member, has been named in the case registered in connection with the allegations. The allegations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
