New Delhi, October 10, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has appealed to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh to reschedule his Delhi concert scheduled for November 1 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing the significance of the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
Acknowledging Dosanjh’s contribution to taking Punjabi music and culture to a global audience, Sahney described the singer as “Punjab’s pride and India’s voice to the world”. However, he said November 1 remains a painful date for thousands of Sikh families who continue to live with the memories and grief of the 1984 violence.
Sahney urged Dosanjh and the concert organisers to consider moving the event to another date out of respect for the victims and their families.
Emphasising the need to balance cultural celebrations with sensitivity towards historical tragedies, Sahney said music brings people together and celebrates Punjab’s rich cultural identity, but the pain of families who lost their loved ones must also be acknowledged.
“This is not about opposing a concert or diminishing the contribution of an artist who has made Punjab proud. It is about recognising the pain of families who lost their loved ones and ensuring that their memories are treated with dignity and respect,” Sahney said.
He added that the victims should be remembered first and the music celebrated on another day.
