Tarn Taran, October 11, 2026: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence wing was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Naushehra Pannuan village of Tarn Taran district on Sunday evening. The victim, identified as Iqbal Singh, was posted with the Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur.
The incident has triggered concern in the area, while police teams have launched an investigation and begun efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
According to the information available, ASI Iqbal Singh was a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village. He was returning home on his motorcycle after completing his duty on Sunday evening.
When he reached the area near the Patwar Khana on the Naushehra Pannuan-Lahuka Road, unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire at him.
Singh sustained multiple gunshot injuries and fell on the road. He died at the scene, while the attackers fled immediately after carrying out the shooting.
Following the incident, police officials rushed to the spot along with a heavy police force. The area was cordoned off, and an investigation was initiated to collect evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
DSP Patti Ravi Sher Singh, who visited the crime scene, said police had launched an investigation and were examining the available evidence.
According to the police, CCTV footage from cameras installed near the crime scene, surrounding areas and major roads is being scrutinised to identify the suspects and trace their movements before and after the attack.
Police teams are also collecting relevant evidence from the spot as part of the investigation.
Motive Behind the Killing Yet to Be Established
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and the police have not yet established why ASI Iqbal Singh was targeted.
Investigators are working to determine whether the attack was linked to any personal enmity or other motive. However, no official conclusion has been reached so far.
