Chandigarh, October 12, 2026: BJP leader and senior Supreme Court advocate H.S. Phoolka on Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of misrepresenting the October 10 incident at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi and using it for political purposes.
Addressing a press conference at the Punjab BJP headquarters in Chandigarh, Phoolka challenged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to release video evidence to substantiate his allegations that women had been mistreated inside the gurdwara premises.
His remarks came after an AAP delegation submitted a memorandum to Sri Akal Takht Sahib seeking action over the incident.
Phoolka said the sanctity of a religious institution should not be used for political purposes. He disputed AAP’s claims that people had been detained inside the gurdwara premises and called for an impartial examination of the available video footage and CCTV recordings.
Phoolka Disputes AAP’s Account
According to Phoolka, protesters had entered the area inside the gurdwara’s entrance gate, where they displayed posters, raised slogans and delivered political speeches. He alleged that sevadars had asked them to stop but the protesters did not comply.
Phoolka further claimed that most of the protesters were AAP supporters.
He said Delhi Police personnel remained outside the main entrance and that the protesters were taken into custody outside the gurdwara premises. According to him, sevadars had asked the police to respect the religious decorum of the shrine and refrain from taking action inside its premises.
Calls for Examination of Video Footage
Phoolka alleged that AAP subsequently circulated a video of the police action and attempted to portray it as footage of an incident inside the gurdwara complex. He maintained that the pathway visible in the video was outside the complex. Calling for the facts to be established, he said all available videos and CCTV footage should be examined impartially.
Phoolka urged AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and the party leadership to refrain from politicising religious institutions and avoid actions that could affect peace in Punjab.
BJP leaders S.S. Channi and Parampal Kaur Maluka, along with state media coordinator Vineet Joshi, were also present at the press conference.
The allegations and account of the incident in this report are based on Phoolka’s statements. AAP’s response to his claims was not included in the material provided.
