Chandigarh, October 16, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the Union Home Ministry will seek a response from the Punjab government over the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa and an incident in Dirba in which a father allegedly consumed poison under pressure.
In a statement posted on X, Shah raised concerns over drug trafficking, gangsterism and organised crime in Punjab, questioning the state government’s accountability for public safety.
Referring to Jhota, who had raised his voice against drugs, Shah said the broad-daylight murder had raised serious questions about law and order in the state. He also referred to allegations levelled by Jhota’s father against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and its MLA.
Shah said the Home Ministry would seek responses from the Punjab government on both incidents.
He called for an impartial investigation into allegations of political patronage to criminals and demanded decisive action against drug networks and organised crime.
Addressing Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Shah said people wanted answers and results rather than announcements, and called for stronger action against those involved in drug trafficking and criminal activities.
He reiterated his pledge that if the BJP came to power in Punjab, it would work towards making the state drug-free, free from gangsterism and more secure for its residents.
