Amritsar (Punjab), October 16, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs and leaders appeared at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Friday, sought forgiveness and distanced themselves from remarks made by Payal MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura about alleged caste-based discrimination at Sikh institutions.
The legislators appeared in compliance with directions issued by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib following Giaspura’s statements to the media outside the Secretariat on October 12.
According to the information issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the AAP leaders admitted that they had neither contradicted Giaspura’s allegations before the media nor clarified their own position at the time.
The leaders stated that they had not faced caste-based discrimination and did not agree with Giaspura’s remarks, describing them as his personal views. They sought forgiveness from Guru Sahib and maintained that no one had been stopped from visiting Sri Akal Takht Sahib on the grounds of caste, race or colour.
Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj also directed the AAP MLAs and leaders to clarify the matter publicly through the media in response to the controversy surrounding Giaspura’s comments.
The issue arose after Giaspura made remarks concerning alleged caste discrimination and Sikh institutions outside the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on October 12.
