Moga (Punjab), October 17: Congress leader and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot on Saturday met the families of murder victims in Moga as part of his five-day visit to Punjab, questioning the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the state’s law and order situation.
Pilot’s statewide visit, scheduled from October 16 to 20, is focused on meeting families affected by gang violence, hearing their grievances and highlighting their demands for justice. The tour covers 11 districts of Punjab.
During his visit to Moga, Pilot met the family of jeweller Parminder Singh alias Vicky, who was shot dead during a daylight robbery at his shop in a crowded market in June 2023. He expressed concern over the safety of traders and ordinary citizens and said the family would receive support in its fight for justice.
Pilot also raised the cases of Congress Block President Baljinder Singh Balli, who was shot dead at his residence in Dala village in September 2023, and Congress worker Umarseer Singh, who was killed in Bhinder Kalan village in January 2026.
In posts on X, Pilot questioned the state government’s response to these killings and alleged that political rivalry and threats had contributed to concerns over public safety. He said the government had a responsibility to ensure that people could live and work without fear.
Umarseer Singh was reportedly shot dead while travelling to work. Police had registered a murder case against seven people, including an AAP-affiliated village sarpanch. The allegations against the accused remain subject to the legal process.
Referring to Balli’s murder, Pilot expressed concern over the family’s wait for justice and said efforts would be made to ensure accountability. He also assured Vicky’s family of support.
Pilot’s visit comes amid the Congress party’s sustained criticism of the AAP government over killings, extortion threats and alleged gang violence in Punjab. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also holds the Home portfolio.
The AAP government’s response to Pilot’s latest allegations was not available at the time of writing.
