Chandigarh, October 23, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday said he had received an invitation to attend the World Punjabi Conference scheduled to be held in Lahore, Pakistan, on November 27.
Speaking during the proceedings of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mann said the organisers of the conference had invited him to visit Lahore and offered to host him.
In his characteristic humorous and sarcastic style, the Chief Minister referred to the restrictions and clearances involved in his foreign visits.
“The World Punjabi Conference is being held in Lahore on November 27. The organisers have kindly invited me, saying, ‘We will host you.’ But I told them that the Central Government does not allow me to go to countries like France and Japan. How will they give me permission to go to Pakistan?” Mann said.
His remarks referred to the issue of clearances for his proposed foreign visits and came during the ongoing Assembly session.
The conference aims to bring together people connected with the Punjabi language and culture. Mann’s participation, however, would depend on the necessary permissions for travel to Pakistan.
