Chandigarh, October 27, 2026: Rajbir Singh Ghuman, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) once again on Monday. Speaking to the media after the questioning, Ghuman said the agency questioned him continuously for approximately four to four-and-a-half hours. Around 100 questions were put to him, he said, adding that these were largely repetitive and contained no new fact-based points.
Responding to questions from the media, Ghuman directly targeted the Central Government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He alleged that the exercise was aimed at tarnishing the image of Punjab’s “honest Chief Minister” and his office. He claimed that the BJP was attempting to replicate in Punjab the same strategy it had allegedly employed in West Bengal by using central investigative agencies to create a political atmosphere.
“Investigative agencies were established to safeguard the country’s security, but unfortunately, they are now being misused for political interests. An attempt is being made to target the Chief Minister through me. However, our opponents will never succeed in their designs because Bhagwant Mann is the most honest leader in Punjab’s history,” Ghuman said.
Questions Raised Over Agency Action Ahead of Elections
Questioning the timing of the central agencies’ actions, Ghuman asked where the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had been over the past four years. He alleged that when raids at the GMADA office and other locations failed to yield anything, such actions were intensified as elections approached. He described the proceedings as “pre-planned” and politically motivated.
During the interaction, Ghuman also launched a sharp attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. He alleged that Majithia had repeatedly attempted to damage his reputation by linking his name to the drug-related case and other incidents.
“Everyone in Punjab knows whose names have been associated with drugs and illegal activities,” Ghuman said, adding that the truth about individuals who had fled abroad and those allegedly involved in wrongdoing would soon be brought before the public.
Ghuman asserted that he was not evading any investigation and fully respected the law. The CBI has scheduled the next date in the matter for October 31. He said he would appear before the agency again on that date and cooperate with the investigation with sincerity and integrity.
