Breaking: BJP names Hardeep Singh Puri as Rajya Sabha bypoll candidate

New Delhi, October 28, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday named Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Madhya Pradesh.
The bypoll, scheduled for November 12, will fill the seat vacated by former Union minister L. Murugan, who resigned from the Rajya Sabha earlier this month. The last date for filing nominations is November 2.
Puri currently serves as Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. His present Rajya Sabha term from Uttar Pradesh is due to end on November 25, 2026. The BJP had not renominated him for the recent Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.
