Chandigarh, November 1, 2026: Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Prof. Vivek Lal, on Sunday visited the six-year-old girl undergoing treatment at the institute following an alleged assault inside a school classroom in Panchkula on October 28.
During the visit, Prof. Lal interacted with the treating doctors and enquired about the child’s health and progress. He assured the family that the institute would extend all possible medical and other assistance to ensure her recovery.
In a humanitarian measure, the PGIMER Director directed that the child’s entire treatment be provided free of cost, with all medical expenses to be borne by the institute. A private room has also been provided to ensure her comfort, privacy and appropriate care during treatment.
“Our responsibility goes beyond providing medical treatment; it is equally about standing by patients and their families in their most difficult moments. The circumstances involving this little child are deeply concerning. We want to ensure that she receives the best possible medical care, along with all the support and comfort she needs,” Prof. Lal said.
The six-year-old is currently under the care of a multidisciplinary team of specialists at PGIMER, which is closely monitoring her condition and providing the necessary medical attention.
According to the institute, the girl was brought to PGIMER with critical injuries following an alleged assault by an eight-year-old boy inside her classroom at a school in Panchkula on October 28. She was referred to the institute for specialised medical care.
The institute said it would continue to extend all necessary support to the child and her family during her treatment.
