Tirchhi Nazar: Cockroaches and Dogs- Are These the Only Issues Left? Could the Political Shadow of the Cockroach Party Reach Punjab Too?
Now There Is Freedom to Kill Dangerous Dogs, but Fears of a Ban on Killing Cockroaches
Other Parties Applauding Should Not Remain Under Any Misconception

The atmosphere has changed. Earlier, everyone hated cockroaches. There was complete freedom to kill them. Billions of rupees were being earned by selling medicines and sprays meant to eliminate cockroaches. But now, cockroaches have become a favorite symbol of Gen Z. This insect has turned into a symbol of their dignity and future-oriented thinking.
There is apprehension that just as Maneka Gandhi earlier got restrictions imposed on killing stray dogs and stray animals, the Cockroach Janata Party may also get a ban imposed on killing cockroaches. Though this point is not yet part of the party’s manifesto, just as it includes demands for banning Ambani and Adani-owned media channels, similarly, companies manufacturing cockroach-killing products, advertisements for such products in the media, and even killing cockroaches inside homes could someday be declared offenses.
After the Supreme Court’s strictness regarding controlling dogs and orders permitting the killing of dangerous dogs, even those governments and ministers who until yesterday had no time to raise slogans in favor of innocent children being attacked daily by stray and violent dogs will now try to grab media headlines by showing enthusiasm on the issue.
Though the Cockroach Party appears to be against the INDIA bloc government and the ruling establishment, it seems to be viewed as an immediate threat. That is why its X handle has reportedly been blocked in India. Leaders of other parties who are clapping over this should not remain under any illusion.
The new generation, namely Gen Z, which helped this party gain millions of followers within hours, is frustrated with all political parties and the entire system. The situation resembles the Anna Hazare movement to some extent, but the fundamental difference this time is that then the movement was led by the older generation, whereas now the younger generation itself is leading from the front.
Although its exact shape is still unclear, experiences from countries like Nepal indicate that Gen Z can create complete political upheaval. Its political shadow may spread across the country, especially in Punjab and in states where assembly elections are due next. Signs have already started emerging that Punjab’s youth are getting attracted towards the Cockroach Party.
Given Punjab’s highly unpredictable political atmosphere, anything can happen here. The people of Punjab have already demonstrated political surprises during the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, then again in 2014, and later in 2022 — therefore, anything is possible.
