Moga, November 30, 2023: With the motivation and financial help gained from Deputy Commissioner, Moga girl Khushpreet Kaur has succeeded in winning the bronze medal in the World Kick Boxing Championship held in Portuguese recently.
On reaching Moga today, Khushpreet was given a grand welcome by the district administration and sports enthusiasts under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh.
While representing India in the under-50 weight category during the championship, Khushpreet defeated the former world champion of Argentina in her last match. Earlier she defeated players from Tajikistan, Slovenia, and Turkey.
It is pertinent to mention that players from 102 countries participated in the championship. Khushpreet alone won a medal out of the 45 players who went to play for India. 19-year-old Khushpreet also achieved the honor of being the youngest player to participate in this championship.
It should also be mentioned here that Khushpreet Kaur, a player from village Ransinh Khurd (near Nihal Singh Wala) of Moga district, has a lot of courage to face international sports competitions, but somewhere her financial aspects become an obstacle in her way to make a big leap.
When she came to the attention of Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh, he assured this talented player to give all possible support to make the name of district Moga and the country shine at the international level. The Deputy Commissioner helped her financially and motivated her to take part in this mega sports event.
Khushpreet's father Jagsir Singh, who himself was a boxer from 1991 to 1997, said that due to lack of financial support, he was unable to send Khushpreet to international competitions. But with the encouragement received from Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh, Khushpreet's dreams have come true. Khushpreet and her father thanked the DC and Punjab Government for providing an encouraging atmosphere to the players.
On this occasion, Chairman Improvement Trust Moga Mr. Deepak Arora, Mayor Municipal Corporation Mr. Baljit Singh Chani, District Education Officer Mrs. Mamta Bajaj, District Public Relations Officer Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal and a large number of sports lovers and family of player were present.
