‘0001’ makes history as Chandigarh’s most expensive number plate till date; Here’s what it sold for

Chandigarh, August 23, 2025: In a record-breaking e-auction, the registration number CH01-DA-0001 has become the most expensive vehicle number in the history of Chandigarh, fetching a bid of ₹36.43 lakh.
The auction was conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), Sector-17, for the new CH01-DA series. The second-highest bid was for CH01-DA-0003, which sold for ₹17.84 lakh.
This marks the highest-ever amount paid for a fancy number in Chandigarh, surpassing all previous auctions.
Earlier, during the auction of the CH01-CW series, the RLA had earned ₹2.26 crore in total revenue. In that round, number 0001 had been sold for ₹16.50 lakh, while 0009 fetched ₹10 lakh. A total of 489 fancy numbers were allotted during the series.
Only Chandigarh residents are eligible to participate in the e-auction, which requires registration on the National Transport website. After winning bids, successful participants must deposit the bid amount before the number is officially allotted.
With this latest auction, Chandigarh has once again highlighted the growing craze for fancy vehicle numbers, where prestige often outweighs the price tag.
