AAP protests against BJP's water policies through BBMB
Punjab Will Not Tolerate Loot of Its Waters, says Chairman Beant Singh
Ferozepur, May 1, 2025: In a strong protest against the BJP-led central government’s alleged attempts to usurp Punjab’s water rights through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a massive demonstration today at Shaheed Rakesh Pilot Chowk in Ferozepur Cantonment. The protest was led by the Chairman of the Market Committee, Ferozepur Cantonment, S. Beant Singh Hakumatwala.
Addressing the gathering, Beant Singh declared that the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will never tolerate any encroachment on Punjab’s rightful share of water. He accused the BJP governments at the Centre, in Delhi, and Haryana of uniting against Punjab to deprive it of its resources.
He alleged that the BJP is playing a double game through BBMB by exploiting its authority to divert Punjab's water to neighbouring states, particularly Haryana, violating the rights of riparian states. Singh emphasised that the AAP government is committed to protecting Punjab’s water and will resist any external interference.
Highlighting Punjab’s current water crisis, he said that the state is already suffering from a shortage of irrigation water, and the groundwater levels are continuously declining. He warned that if the BJP does not stop these actions, larger-scale protests will follow.
Singh firmly stated that Punjabis have the full right over their waters and no one will be allowed to loot them. He condemned BBMB’s repeated resolutions that allegedly aim to undermine Punjab’s control over its waters and reiterated the AAP government’s firm stand in defending the state’s rights.
Prominent local leaders and AAP volunteers present at the protest included Vikramjit Singh Dhillon (Block President), Robby Sandhu, Bhupinder Kaur, Gurmeet Singh (Sarpanch), Gurjant Singh, Jagmeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh (Sarpanch), Gurvinder Singh, Gurpinder Singh Gora, Lakhvir Singh, Prem Singh (Sarpanch), Kulwinder Singh (Sarpanch), Sucha Singh (Member), Angrez Singh (Member), Gurpreet Singh Preeti, Bohar Singh (Narayangarh), Pargat Singh Mall, Dilbag Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Rachhpal Singh (Sarpanch), Baljinder Singh (Malwal), Jarmal Singh, Rajwant Singh Sodhi, Deepu (Bazidpur), and Bagicha Singh, among others.
